Dissertations in Art History : A Guide: UCB Dissertations

UC Berkeley dissertation authors are obligated to make their research available to other scholars as part of the degree requirement. Since about 2010, when a copy of a dissertation is filed with the UC Berkeley Graduate Division, it is forwarded to the University of California eScholarship repository for deposit. UC Berkeley dissertations are also indexed (and, more recently, published as full-text) in the Proquest Dissertation and Thesis database. Note that UC Berkeley authors can opt to embargo for two years.

Prior to 2010, dissertations were provided to the Library in print form only and are shelved off campus at the Northern Regional Library Facility (NRLF) in Richmond and can be requested via the online library catalog, UC Library Search. To find titles that have been published within Berkeley’s History of Art Department (prior to 2010), search UC Library Search, by subject: 'dissertations, academic ucb history of art'. Individual dissertations may also be searched in UC Library Search by author or title.
